In Loving Memory of
James Lockridge Wiggins
A Life Filled with Love and Joy
The beloved son of the late James Wiggins and Katie Sue Lockridge, James was born on September 13, 1954, in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He was the youngest of his siblings, dearly cherishing his brother Clyde E. Cole and sister Marilyn Ann Coffee-Brown, as well as his loving sisters Gwendolyn Marie Wiggins and Yolanda Joyce Wiggins.
In 1963, James moved to the Bronx, New York, with his father, mother and sister while Clyde remained in Michigan. Following the separation of his parents, he later lived with his father before enlisting in the United States Army in 1975.
James served his country with pride and dedication. He began his military career as a Food Service Specialist for 12 years and later transitioned into the role of Administrative Specialist for 19 more. Over the course of his distinguished service, he was awarded numerous honors, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, among others. He also earned his Associate of Arts degree during his time in the service.
In 1993, James was stationed in Syracuse, NY—his final assignment—where he served with the Syracuse Battalion Recruitment Division until his honorable retirement in 1998. Choosing to remain in Syracuse, James transitioned back into civilian life and continued working for several years before fully retiring. His strong work ethic and passion for excellence were evident in everything he did.
James was a man of quiet faith. Though he was baptized at an early age and believed in Jesus Christ, he was not a member of a local congregation. His greatest ministry was to his family— particularly to his nieces, nephews, siblings, and step-siblings. He made a point to be present at every holiday, family gathering, and during each leave from service. Though he had no biological children, James was a devoted father figure to many, offering both emotional and financial support, especially when others could not. His generosity and consistency left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Known for his infectious laugh, warm presence, and legendary BBQ skills, James brought joy wherever he went. Even when there was no backyard, once that indoor grill came out, you knew a feast was on the way. He took pride in his cooking and loved a good challenge around the grill.
On Friday, April 11, 2025, James Wiggins passed away peacefully at his home in Syracuse, NY. His memory will forever be cherished by the many lives he touched—through his service, his laughter, and most of all, his love.
James’s memory will be lovingly cherished by his devoted nieces: Diane Renee Cole and Ronneek Delores Deale (Curtis R. Deale); and by his nephews: Lord Utmost El (also known as Donald Wiggins) and his wife Devine El (also known as Nina), as well as Anthony Cheathem. He is also remembered with love by the late Hasuan K. Coffee and his wife, Tahany.
His legacy lives on through his great-nieces: Natasha, Shaniece (Duain), Monet, Alexandra, Tapioca, Empress, Shiafreezhah, and Kelsey; and his great-nephews: Casanova, Lord Jr., Nemesis, and Hasuany and great-great-niece, Ayvah Monet McKay.
In addition to his immediate family, James will be deeply missed by his dear sister-friend Corrine Saddler, along with a host of cousins, extended family, and lifelong friends who were blessed to know him.
